The June program is the first of the "new year" for the guild.

Some thoughts about programs for the new year include: silk measuring, fabric for clothing, purposeful weaving, sewing fabrics, felting, southwest weaving, tablet weaving, color gamp, shawl on the loom, socks, charkas and tapestry. What will come of it all? Come to the June meeting and find out....

The July program featured Kool-Aid (KA) dyeing, using the hot July sun for the energizer. KA contains food grade colors and enough citric or ascorbic acid that no further mordanting is necessary. Also, KA will strike at relatively low temps, allowing solar dyeing with very good results on protein fibers -- wool or any other animal hair. You should plan on one packet of KA per one ounce of dry fiber. Members dyed in
plastic baggies and jars. KA colors were easily mixed and results varied from pastel to vibrant. All the examples were beautiful and will remain
permanent.
Programs are always accompanied by treats
to pamper the busy members.
In show 'n tell, Bea shared qiviut facts gathered on her recent trip north to Alaska where the little musk ox critters roam, and Kathy described her weaving experience at the Weaving School of Madelyn van der Hoogt in northern Washington.
Kathy also won the door prize.
July 2005 Horoscope Scarf Workshop!

Back by popular demand, Anita presented her horoscope weaving lecture and workshop. Attendees enjoyed a lecture covering the topic in general, then inspected various horoscope weavings. Those wishing an individual horoscope warp contacted Anita with their birth date, time and place and enjoyed weaving their own specific pattern.
June 2005 meeting featured a field trip to the Alpaca Farm

We all got up close and personal with the alpacas. We fed them mulberry leaves which was their favorite treat. We were their best friends until the leaves disappeared. Alpacas like their space and petting them is NOT what they enjoy. It's more of a "you do your thing and I'll do my thing, but I'll be right there with you as I am very curious---but don't pet me!"

They have the most beautiful big eyes and an inquisitive quiet expression, and the new baby alpaca was soooooooo soft!
